Twentysomethings with teenage skin: Makeup

Make up is to improve and enhance what we've already got. Nothing looks worse than orange faces and clown cheeks.

It's imperitive to start with basics and look after what you've got, then you need less make up. It's about having healthy looking skin, then enhancing eyes, cheeks and lips. Always start off with clean moisturised skin.

Concealer -make your concealer work hard so you need less foundation. Choose a thicker one, with bonus points for light reflecting (Eyeko Touch Up & Go) or blemish busting (Witch Concealer) or thrifty (ELF All Over Cover Stick). Apply to spots, scars, underneath tired eyes, around the nose and redness. Then blend, really well- fingers or sponge, your choice.

Foundation -You don't need to spend a fortune (Boots 17 do a great range, as do Maybelline and Rimmel). Choose one that fits your skin type and lifestyle (long lasting, sleep effect etc). Spend time getting the colour match right. Now, you only need a blob the size of a 5p coin, apply however you prefer to even out skin.

Powder - essential for oily skin to keep a fresh looking face. Go for a loose transluscent powder- again own brands are great so long as they are not orange. I mix in a shimmer (not orange or tan) to add some light- Tesco do a little loose pot for a couple of pounds. Dust powder all over the face with a fluffy brush.

Blush- Cream or gel blushers put the colour back in cheeks. Pull a really cheesy grin and apply blusher the fat bit of your cheek then blend up the cheek bone. Start with a little, you can always add more depending on the effect you want. I like ELF Shimmering Facial Whip in Lemonade or Citrus depending on the look I'm going for.

Eyes- for awake, open eyes it's black, waterproof mascara (Elf's is good, you get more tech at £6 brand/spend). Another trick is to blend some white eyeliner crayon underneath the eyebrow and on the brow bone. Keep eyebrows groomed and neat. Liners and shadows are up to you...

This is basic guide for great looking and a together-look.

Vicky,
In the article of "twenty somethings with teen skin". Basically who ever wrote that article is pushing China junk. By that I mean, American, Canadian, or European brands but made in China. After reading several articles in Elle, Marie Claire, on avoiding China made junk. Reason is the following: Are you to trust that someone on the other side of the planet is preoccupied with having a quality control system? Chances are NOT. Remember the tainted milk, poisoned dog food, and rotten sheet rock all from China. Are we to say, that it cannot happen with Chinese makeup? The dollar brands being promoted are made in China, as well as high priced china junk found at Sephora. Why are we even buying China junk makeup? So that CEO's can make more millions, give all ready filthy rich celebs endorsement checks? Look the way I see it, there are companies here in the USA/Canada that make FDA quality controlled products. Is the system perfect here? No, but rather this than "anything goes" philosophy of companies that make china junk for pennies and sell them here to ignorant women for 1000% profit, or the dollar makeup. I made a clear choice for me, whatever makeup I use, will be USA or nothing at all. I carefully did my homework, and found this company to produce all of their products here in the USA, the brand came out in ELLE, and celebs like Mylie, Emma Watson, Shakira are known to use it. The brand is called, Coonobabe. Visit them www.coonobabe.com
